Attending THAIFEX – 2026 in Bangkok this March has once again reinforced the scale, energy, and future direction of the foodservice and hospitality industry across our region, writes Phil Llewellyn FCSI.
As Chair of the FCSI Asia Pacific Division, it was a privilege to represent our organisation at one of the most important trade platforms in Asia. THAIFEX continues to stand out not only for its size, but for the quality and diversity of exhibitors, from global manufacturers to emerging regional innovators, showcasing advancements in equipment, sustainability, food production, and technology integration.
A key highlight of this year’s visit was the opportunity to present and participate in an FCSI led panel discussion titled “From Cost to Competitive Advantage: The ROI of Independent Foodservice Consultancy in Southeast Asia – Why FCSI Asia Pacific Matters.” The discussion focused on how independent, accredited consultants play a critical role in protecting investor interests, improving project outcomes, and future-proofing foodservice developments across fast-growing ASEAN markets.
The session explored the shift from viewing consultancy as a cost, to recognising it as a strategic investment, one that delivers measurable returns through better planning, operational efficiency, risk mitigation, and long-term asset performance. The strong engagement from attendees highlighted a growing awareness across the region of the value that professional, independent advice brings to increasingly complex hospitality projects.
Beyond the panel, the show itself offered a comprehensive and highly engaging program. The “Xperiential Zone” provided an immersive look into emerging concepts and innovation in action, while the Academy sessions and workshop programme delivered valuable knowledge-sharing opportunities across a wide range of industry topics. These elements, alongside the expansive exhibition, continue to position THAIFEX as both a showcase and a learning platform for the region and an opportunity to meet other regional organisations.
Events of this scale and quality are only possible through strong partnerships and collaboration. On behalf of FCSI Asia Pacific, I would like to sincerely thank our valued sponsors, Welbilt and Halton, for their continued support of our activities and presence in the region. Their commitment to innovation and industry leadership aligns strongly with the values we promote as an organisation.
I would also like to acknowledge my fellow Asia Pacific Board members, Andrew Brain, Bruno Magro, and Leonard Lam, for their ongoing dedication and contribution, not only at THAIFEX but across all FCSI initiatives. Your leadership and engagement continue to strengthen our regional impact, along with all the other APD Board members tirelessly working behind the scenes.
It was also fantastic to see our colleague Andrew Brain contributing as a judge for the product “Sustainability Award”, an important initiative that reflects the industry’s increasing focus on responsible design, environmental performance, and long-term impact.
A special thank you must go to the THAIFEX organisers for hosting such a well-executed and dynamic event. The professionalism, scale, and attention to detail ensure that the show remains a benchmark for industry exhibitions globally. Finally, my sincere appreciation to our outstanding Administrator, Jennifer Wong, whose coordination and support behind the scenes make our participation seamless and effective.
THAIFEX 2026 has once again highlighted the strength, innovation, and collaboration that define the Asia Pacific foodservice industry. As consultants, we are uniquely positioned to help guide this progress, bridging ideas, technology, and operational excellence to deliver better outcomes for our clients and their customers.
We look forward to continuing these conversations and building on the momentum generated in Bangkok, with several other events planned for this year. Visit our website for further details: FCSI Events | Foodservice Consultants Society International
